We were wrong, thinking we could just hit that Share! button without giving or losing anything, merely duplicating digital stuff in the hope of getting some reputation points. Yet true sharing must be unconditional, like a gift: opening up to the future beyond the immediate payoff. Unconditional sharing is the sign of a Self that has overcome the need for personal validation through digital hype, and recognises that authentic connection is based on non-negotiable generosity. It means offering a resource, an idea, or a part of oneself not in view of immediate gain, but in order to make the social fabric more inhabitable for those who will come after. It is the act of planting a tree whose fruits will not be seen by the planter, the bet that trust and interdependence possess intrinsic value, beyond any algorithmic capitalisation. We must therefore shift our focus from the obligation of sacrifice – which always implies an accounting of loss – to the power of the gift: an act that does not deflate the Self, but rather expands it, integrating it into a collective narrative that requires neither proof nor likes, in order to exist. The maturity of sharing lies in accepting this asymmetry and in recognising that the act of sharing is the very oxygen of community: a vital breath given in advance, for a future in which the only true wealth will be the possibility of being together. 153 152
